The Givebutter donor platform gives supporters the option to cover the cost of transaction fees and leave a tip for their platform. These are enabled by default and will be reflected in the total amount. If you see a $10 dollar donation register as "Pay $12.61" that is the reason :) You have the option to choose not to cover the processing fees for us or to leave a tip for Givebutter by clicking "Edit" next to processing fees and clicking "$2" and changing to other in the tip option.

We have made it possible to now transfer stocks directly to Friends of the Carpenter. By donating stock that has appreciated a year or more you are actually giving 20% more than if you sold the stock and then made a cash donation. The reason why is that if you donate the stock directly to a charity, there’s no capital gains tax to pay. Plus, you are still eligible to deduct the full fair-market value of the asset you donated from your income taxes, up to the overall amount allowed by the IRS. This win-win means more resources for Friends of the Carpenter.

Please notify mary@friendsofthecarpenter.org of your stock gift, including ticker symbol and amount of shares, as well as your gift intent. In many cases, stock donations do not come with donor data. Providing the ticker symbol of the stock donated, along with the number of shares, will help our team properly identify your stock donation.
